  1. Tilly

Hello my name is Tilly and I am interested in what the ages are on your sunday sessions at 9am-11am at Bracknell ski?

    Thank You
    Tilly

    1. sfc

      Hi Tilly,
All ages are welcome – we have 6 year olds all the way up to 50+ year olds.

Come Along and you’ll have a great time

      1. Paul Webb - Southern F/style committee & coach

Tilly – any age provided you have basic ski or snowboard skills – we have had people take part between age 6 to 60 ( most people are between 10 & 18) but we have a couple of regular 6 yrs olds & one regular 54 yr old. All welcome

  2. Haydn

Hi I was wondering is any level of skill welcome because I’m fairly new to freestyle and want to get more in to it ?

    1. sfc

      Hi Haydn,
You need to have the basic ski/snowboard skills and a willingness to learn… feel free to come along to one of the sessions and have a chat with some of the coaches.

      1. Haydn

I do have the basic skill because I’ve been riding piste for 11 years now but only just got into park and won’t to get better and also do you need to own skis ?

        1. sfc

          Hi Haydn
At the Bracknell ski slope we have a small supply of Freestyle skis which you can rent until you decide to buy your own skis. Hope to see you there one Sunday (9am-11am).

    Hi

I would like to know some more infomation about the Southern Freestyle Series and the competitions, when they are??

    1. sfc

      Hi Tom,
I’m afraid that for 2011 they have already happened – they generally occur in the summer months once the “snow” season has finished. The good news is that there are plenty of competitions still to come across the UK this year… you can find out all about them by checking out some of the other sites that you will find via the Links on our News page

      1. Tom

will there be any snow dome comps before next summer??

        1. sfc

          Tom,
the next one is at Castleford on the 24th.

    Hi,

I was chatting to one of you a couple of Tuesdays ago (after one poor lad was carted off in an ambulance) and I have completely forgotten the name of the chap?!

I was asking about coming along to a session and was told that I’d be welcome to come along to a Sunday morning and I’d be able to borrow your equipment to get a taste for freestyle skiing.

If possible, I’d like to come along this Sunday morning, please let me know if there is any issues with this and if I need to bring anything else along..

    Cheers,

    Steve

    1. sfc

      Hi Steve,
I suspect the lad was Kyle (was it an airbag night?) – in which case it may have been John Prince. Failing that, it was either Dave Saunders or Paul Webb. I will drop all three an email and they can answer your query.

      cheers,

      Daran.

      1. Steve

        Hi,

It was the air bag night. I wish that I had a better memory for names!

        Thanks for the update.

        Steve

    2. paul

Yes you are welcome to come along any Sunday, provided you can ski then the slope will provide boots & we can hire you freestyle skis & helmet. The Sunday club is for members of the John Nike club so if you come regularly they will expect you to join.

      Fees – Sunday session £10
Slope membership (year) £29 Adult – £15 junior (under 16), also gets you discount on all other skiing activities including Tues night F/style.
Hiring skis, helmet, other protections – depends on our mood, normally £10 will cover it.
After 4 sessions if you get into it then please also join – Southern Freestyle Club. Membership covers the coaching, SSE insurance (essential for use of the air bag) – £15 p.a.

      1. Steve

Fantastic thanks! I’ll hopefully be there early on Sunday to join you.

    Hi,

Have just found the John nike website and then subsequently yours – I’m a god intermediate snowboarder but haven’t done much freestyle, having failed to get powder on my last few annual trips I’m keen to get into freestyle a bit more and this sounds perfect – do you guys just turn up on Tuesdays or do any sort of club nights other than for team members?

    Thanks

    1. sfc

      Hi Andrew,
      as per the previous post:

Hay, im 15 iv been freesty skiing for 3 years and im from aldershot ski center. Every one there has been telling me to do some comps as they say pretty got at freestyle. I want to get info about up coming comps get into the competitive part of freestyle. Should I get mebership :?

    1. paul

Hi Aaron why don’t come along to our next Southern Squad Session at Bracknell Sun morning on 5th Feburary 9:00 where you will be able to meet & ski with a range of freestyle skiers from around the South who have been to various types of competitions ? We are also have a club session every Sunday morning with at least 1 or 2 competition skiers you can meet & ski with , you are welcome any time. I think you have to pay an annula fee to John Nike Group of £15 & the sessions are £10 each time and last 2 hours or 2.5 hrs on a squad day.

      Join our Facebook page
      Southern.Freestyle@groups.facebook.com

& you will see various comps being announced.

Comps vary , types are :-
      1) informal slopestyle/rail jam on dry & indoor slopes in the UK , good fun but as the normally only give top 3 prizes & some spot prizes so its hard to know where you rate but a great way to get involved informally & you don’t have to do any judged runs where you are the only skier on the slope with everyone watching you.
      2) UK organised comps , I know of 3 orgs that run them & they will give all riders a score & position in age group & overall so you will know exactly how you did.
Brits org usually run at least one in late summer early autumn , they used to run 3 indoor & 3 outdoor but have really cut down & I think last year only ran an outdoor at Norwich & a indoor at Castelford in Yorkshire.
The last 2 years the Southern Freestyle group has run a 3 dry slope series in May-June & will probably do so again.
In Scotland there is a Scottish series
      3) Entry level Snow comps – The only one organised by a UK compnay is the Brits in Laax in March – a week long competition, 4 competative days, Halfpipe , Slopestyle , Ski cross & Big Air – you can pick any or do them all, level is beginner to European level but all must have a UK passport to compete. There are also some other series run by European orgs.
      4) Next level FIS level National , Europa & World Cup level, here you start to need a FIS licese from Bristish Snow Sports & to qualify for that you must be registered as an freestyle performer with Snow Sport England.

Feel free to give me a ring or email to get more info.

    Hi there,
I am 13 and want to get into freestyle skiing but i don’t no where to start,
could you give me some advice whether i should go to the freestyle club
and hire skis or save some money and buy some freestyle skis.
Hope to hear from you soon. Charlie

    1. paul

      Hi Charlie,

If you can ski OK ( just ok is fine don’t have to be an total expert) & would like to try Freestyle get down to your local ski slope at a Freestyle session & start asking how to get involved.

If are able to get to Bracknell you are in luck because we run a Sunday morning coached session where we help people to get started & make sure there is a range of kit out that is suitable for all the levels that are there that day.

We also have a limited range of freestyle skis , helmets & back protectors so we can usually hire those to people who are just starting out, we don’t charge much as we want to see people get involved & try the sport.

If you get into it we can advise on how to get your own stuff without spending too much.

For a Sunday am session at Bracknell , 9:00-11:00 ski time
costs should be – £15 one off anual payment to John Nike ski club
£10 per session add another £10 if hiring skis & helmets from us

Feel Free to give me a call (I’ll mail my number) or direct email
