Southern Freestyle upd Feb 2013

Sorry we have not been posting much recently on this site , we are better skiers than web masters, however there is a very active Facebook group called Southern Freestyle Club where there is always someone online who will answer any questions or comments. Also feel free to use the contact us feature on this web site as it sends emails straight to us.

It has been brought to our attention that the calendar on this site was incorrect, it has been fixed now but let me make it clear that Freestyle Club Sunday sessions at Bracknell always start at 09:00 never at 08:00 , our sincere apologies to James & his mother from Snowtrax site that came to Bracknell last Sunday at 08:00.

For the record the public sessions on Thursday at Bracknell always run 7-10pm.

We had a rare injury last Sunday , snowboarder Luke Kimble broke his wrist & arm when going big on a 180, we wish him a fast & full recovery.

We are still running extended “squad” sessions on each 1st Sunday of the month when we get at least an extra 30mins slope time & have some extra coaching staff I would still like to move to quarterly squad sessions at different slopes more in the style of “grom camps” but have not had time to get it organised properly.

There is a some exciting competition news for the summer in that SSE are setting up a 4 slope series of Freestyle comps for this in addition to the Snowtour series which has now sadly dropped to just one event.

For news on such  national level competitions see this link   http://www.freestylesnowsports.co.uk/british/

Personally I am less involved in activivly sking at Bracknell , I have been doing it for may years & now need to give more attention to other areas of my life but I still love to come down & jib on the jumps & rails when I get a chance, I had an amazing trip to see the Dew tour & ski with the British team in Breckenridge & Keystone last December.

We had a fab club trip to the “dry” slope of Noex Les Mines in Northern France in the middle of a snowstorm in January & found it had enoug snow to ski it like an apline park, it is a great training facility & we should use it more (see picture below)

I will try to see if when sitting at home I can spend more time getting used to editing on the web site & put up more articles.

Happy skiing to all & good luck to all those taking part in competitions over the rest of the this season.

Squad Training – session now longer & there is an air bag.

Squad Training – 9 am start – to 11:30

Important!

Yes the slope management recognised that people travel further to the squad sessions so give us an extra 30mins.

We have realised that we have not being putting as much structure into the squad sessions as we used to so we are going to make sure we turn up at 08:30 to prepare & be ready to start sking at 09:00.

The purpose of this session is still to have fun but also to work on goals with  riders from around the south & when possible with extra coaches and bigger course setup than the average Sunday.

We are going to use a bit of extra time to start the sessions with some warm ups & fun ski skills  so if you havent tried the increasing speed slalom or the backwards duel slalom get down the slope early as we plan to start those at 09:00.

We also expect to put out the air bag on Sunday,  we are still developing the use of the bag.  Currently we are just running it with one of our mini quarter pipes acting as the take off ramp & we have ordered a custom jump & a big crash mat for in case of overshoots.

Normally the air bag company will be charging an extra £5 to hit the bag.

As always current and non-members welcome to attend the squad session.

Hope to see you Sunday …. Dave , Paul , John & Daran

I am happy to announce that there will be a club session on Sunday 18th Sept

I am happy to announce that Steve Wells has stepped into to help out & run the Sunday session on the 18th , it was in danger of being cancelled as several members will be away are skiing at the Farmers Jam in Norwich ski club ( see link below ), another group are at a skate park session in Wales & I am “on call” for work.

Thanks Steve for helping out it is much appreciated as we hate to ever cancel a session. This kind of co-operation is what makes the club work.

For anyone who can get to the Farmers Jam in Norwich , this is a great event with a long history & runs Fri eve, Sat & Sun but you can attend for any session as they run them as seperate comps within the whole weekend.
